The Gate

by Josh Harrison

This poem was written for an issue of my high school literary magazine, which was called The Gate

You, who hold this book in your hands,
Are about to pass into another world.
Another universe, another dimension.
The laws that govern our world
Do not always apply here.
It is not a dimension of sight or sound,
But one of beliefs and ideas.

There is something here for everyone.
For the romantic, there is art and poetry.
There is comedy for those who wish to laugh,
And drama, for those that don't.
There is high adventure for the daring.
But most importantly, within these pages
Is the study of human existence.

To enter this dimension
You don't need reservations,
And you don't need to pack any bags.
You may come and go as you please,
But you will always carry a piece of this new world with you.
The path is clear,
And your imagination is the key to the gate.
