Valyan's Heirs

The Journal of Thrak Stonebrow

While we were interrogating Arvid, Rayne came and told us that Markham had disappeared by use of some spell. My heart started to burn. The one who was responsible for Sharn's death and Brik's "trial" was loose. Someday, I will have my revenge upon him.

After that, we spent a couple of weeks in Valheim. I learned to read Troll while my companions learned other talents. After that we trekked to Urupa, a journey which took about two weeks. During the trip, we stopped in Valyan's Legacy and left Arvid in the jail there. Hound came with us, so we could bring him to Fellidra.

When we arrived in Urupa, we left word with Fellidra Jer's aide that we were here with information for her. We left the name of the inn we could be reached at, Garlen's Blessing. We then went about getting our thread items into the hands of those who could tell us what they did, and what we needed to know about them. Malorrin took mine to research, while the rest of the items went to researchers, including Malorrin's own staff.

While we were hanging around the inn that night, a messenger came and told us that Fellidra had invited us to dinner at her manor. We quickly accepted and followed the messenger to Fellidra's house. At dinner, we told her all about what had happened in Valheim. She was thoughtful after our story and asked us to stay in the city for a while so she could do some question asking herself.

The next day, Malorrin got a package, a staff, wrapped with a note. Roughly, it said that the researcher could not find anything to do with the staff, so he was returning it. Malorrin opened the package and knew right away that it was wasn't his. He had the name of the guy and where he had dropped it off. The name was Abraham Kelson.

We went to his business and found out that he was not there. We tracked him down through witnesses to his new business location. Kira and Gir went around the back, while Malorrin, Charye, Rayne, and I went through the front. We knocked and a voice said, "Come into the front room. I'll be right out." I opened the front door and walked into the first room. We saw a bunch of boxes that were in various states of being unpacked. There were also stairs going upstairs and a door to the back room. The voice again said, "I'll be right out." Listening where the voice came from, I proceeded into the back room. When I entered, he must have heard my footfalls, because he turned and started to say something until he caught sight of me and Malorrin right behind me. I shared his recognition as I saw not Abraham Kelson, but instead Abel Keller, the man who had given us a phony treasure map that led us into a fatal trap for Rezak, one of our earlier companions.

During the recognition, the windlings burst in through the back door. This snapped Abel out of his stupor. He did the obvious thing and tried to run by them rather than going through me. He's never seen Gir in a fight though. He went down pretty hard, but still alive. We informed the city guard that we had a criminal and they sent a detachment to arrest him. They told us to stick around for his trial because we would be called on to testify. Kira was especially glad to have him in custody.

Over the next few days, we proceeded to try and make some money while we waited. I went about looking for anybody that needed training to advance to their next circle. I found someone who did. It was a little weird being the trainer instead of the trainee, but I felt it was the best way to both make money and give back to the people.

This whole time, I've been reading Sharn's journal, trying to learn more about him. I hope to bring it to the Great Library in Throal one day.
